Hackett is a native of Germantown, MD. She attended Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD where she was a four year starter, four year leading scorer, and two time team captain. During her senior season, she led the team to a CAC conference championship and its first NCAA Elite 8 appearance in the school's history. During her senior season, she averaged 18.1 PPG, 4.2 APG, and 2.5 RPG while shooting over 45% from the field, 40% from three, and 86% from the free throw line. She ended her career at Salisbury as the program's second all-time leading scorer with 1,802 points and the third all-time assists leader with 515 assists.

During her senior season, Hackett was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, ECAC South Player of the Year, D3hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year, D3hoops.com All-American First Team, and WBCA All-American Honorable Mention.
